Because Sometimes You Gotta Say “Fuck Responsibility”

Yeah, everybody wants to make beats or be a rapper. I used to do both but stopped because I wasn’t any closer to being signed to Def Jam by the time i was 22. Life happens, shit falls apart, plans get made…but you never follow them.  I’ve been planning on getting back into both *or making beats at the very least* for the better part of 10 years now. Once again, life happens and you have to do what you’re supposed to do instead of what you want.

I had been planning on building a home studio for the better part of 10-15 years but never got around to doing it. Something always came up that either required my full attention/time and money. So finally, I said fuck it..i’ma do what i want. BAWL OWT.

Eyan is in the process of building Swaggtanamo Bay aka my home studio. I VERY seriously doubt I’ll call it Swaggtanamo Bay seriously, so if you have any suggestions for a better name, drop that shit in the comments here or on my Tumblr page. Anyway, on to the goodies.

I copped Native Instruments’ Maschine because since it’s a hardware/software combo that’s INTENDED to run together, it seemed the most flexible to me. There’s a couple of drawbacks to it, but I’ve already found some workarounds for them.

I’ve only had it since Friday night, so I haven’t really had time to sit down and get too serious with it. I have some free time next weekend, so maybe then. Don’t expect too much for at LEAST 2-3 months.

I went with the Mackie Onyx 820i as my audio interface/mixer. I don’t plan on being TOO serious with it, so I got something that had enough features to do what I want out the box. If i do decide to get jiggy widdit, I can always upgrade but I doubt I’ll need to.

Only things left on the shopping list are a midi keyboard controller and some studio monitors. My Altec Lansing Octane 7s aren’t bad, but I can already tell i’m going to need some monitors for mixing.

Anyway, I’ll keep everyone posted of how things are going.
